A Special Thanks to Our Community

We understand that the last 18 months have been a real challenge to everyone and that includes our entire Dal-Bac Manufacturing Community. As we approach the Holiday Season we wanted to pause for a moment and give thanks and recognition to everyone who has helped us through this difficult time.

We hope you will be able to spend some time celebrating with your teams and families during the Holidays. Please note that Dal-Bac:

  • Will be closed November 25 – 26 to celebrate Thanksgiving.

We have to begin with our dedicated team. Without them no flame lamination, thermal fusing, or coating takes place. During the COVID pandemic you have dealt with new safety requirements, uncertainty, and constant changes in projects and schedules. Despite all of that everyone has adapted and kept their focus on our primary mission of always exceeding customer expectations.

Dal-Bac has always been proud of our extensive network of supplier partners – never more so than during the COVID era! Our suppliers represent our life’s blood and we simply cannot function without them. We are so appreciative of your ability to continue to work with us through these trying times to provide exceptional solutions for our customers.

Our dedication to delivering exceptional products to our customers is a bedrock principal at Dal-Bac. Our entire purpose is to provide you with the products you need with exceptional quality and value. We understand that you have other options and are constantly working to earn and keep your business by finding ways to improve performance and lower costs. We are thrilled that our customers managed to keep the orders coming to us in a very challenging environment. Without you we would not be sending out this note of appreciation!

Our business requires our very own “village” to succeed. Without our team pulling together, our support from supplier partners, and trust in our ability to deliver from our customers, our situation could have been dramatically different. We are very thankful to our entire village for helping us to steer our way through this difficult time and are so excited about the journey ahead that we will all share together.

Sincere thanks and our appreciation,

Dal-Bac Manufacturing

Laminated Fabric for Superior Composites

Dal-Bac Manufacturing creates laminated fabric composites that deliver better performance than using a single fabric. Laminated fabric is a combination of two or more layers including at least one layer of a textile fabric. The layers are bound together using either:

  1. Thermal Fusing that applies adhesive between layers of fabric or other materials to create a Laminated Fabric.
  2. Flame Lamination to activate the adhesive properties of one or more of the component layers to create a Laminated Fabric.

Laminated Fabric Requirements

Laminated Fabric success depends on a clear understanding of the expected use of the finished product.  This insures that the fabric layers will not degrade or deteriorate and will meet all expected conditions and requirements. Items that need to be considered in creating Laminated Fabrics include:

  • Movement
  • Laundering
  • Temperature extremes
  • Water-resistance
  • Breathability
  • Durability
  • Flexibility
  • Stiffness

Another key requirement is the “hand” or feel of the fabric.  Understanding the desired “hand”, performance characteristics, and downstream production requirements are critical to creating effective laminated fabrics. Adhesives can sometimes make the fabric too stiff, which adversely impacts the “hand”, performance, and production.

Our engineering teams work closely with customers to identify and select the best composite materials to exceed requirements. Dal-Bac is known for creating custom Laminated Fabric solutions.

Benefits of Laminated Fabric

Laminated Fabric incorporates the properties of all the materials in the composite to deliver significant benefits. It features specific characteristics that are customized to specific requirements and environments that are beyond the capability of a single fabric solution.

Laminated Fabrics are generally:

  • More Durable
  • More Versatile
  • Stronger
  • Easier to work with for downstream production needs

Many Laminated Fabrics are designed to be water-resistant and breathable. This is accomplished by laminating a non-textile membrane between two textile layers. The membrane is porous to allow water vapor to escape and the outer layer serves as a moisture barrier.

Creating exceptional Laminated Fabric composites is a specialty at Dal-Bac. We are always ready to craft a custom solution to meet specific requirements.

Thermal Fusing – Lamination with different types of adhesives!

Dal-Bac Manufacturing offers a full range of lamination services including Thermal Fusing.  Our thermal fusing solutions combine two or more materials together into a single composite. We use thermal fusing lamination to create finished products that combine the characteristics of the individual layers and have enhanced durability and performance in a wide range of environmental extremes. Thermal fusing lamination is ideal for combining materials like:

  • Textiles
  • Plastic films
  • Papers
  • Foams
  • Non-wovens
  • Waterproof textiles

The most critical part of any thermal fusing lamination project is selecting the correct adhesive. To make sure we select the correct adhesive, our engineering team works closely with our customers to make sure that we understand the bond requirements for the finished product.  Our thermal fusing laminations use one of two types of thermoplastic adhesives:

  1. Adhesive films:  Plastic films that have been engineered to melt at a specific target temperature and that exhibit superior flow characteristics upon melting.
  2. Hot-melt web adhesives:  These are conventional hot-melt adhesives that are melted and spun onto a belt, creating a thin continuous web of hot-melt adhesive.

Another factor in selecting the adhesive is understanding where and when the adhesive will be fully activated. There are two primary options:

  1. The project involves creating a finished product consisting of one or multiple layers of materials bonded together for use in downstream production.  In this case the adhesive is fully activated creating the final composite product.
  2. The project requires that adhesive be added to a material but not fully activated. The adhesive will be reactivated at a later production stage to create bonds between the original material and other surfaces.

Dal-Bac is dedicated to meeting and exceeding exacting manufacturing specifications. That is the commitment and dedication we demonstrate with our ISO 9001:2015 certification.

If you have a need to combine thin, flexible materials for either a product component, final product, or downstream application our team can help you develop the best solution.

Foam Lamination Creates Custom Foam Composites for Many Applications

Foam lamination is a process that creates flexible foam composites from a wide variety of materials:

  • Foams
    • Polyurethane
    • Polyethylene
    • Vinyl-nitrate
    • EVA
  • Outer/inner layers
    • Fabrics
    • Films
    • Non-wovens
    • Adhesives

The composites are then put to work across a range of industries for a wide assortment of products:

  • Die cut promotional products – “We’re #1!”
  • Beverage insulation products
  • Intimate apparel
  • Disposable medical padding and bandages
  • Safety equipment
  • Costumes
  • Protective helmets
  • Saddle pads
  • Gym mats
  • And many more….

Dal-Bac manufacturing has been creating custom foam lamination solutions for over 25 years and we specialize in creating new solutions and processes that deliver exceptional value. Central to our success is our engineering department and extensive supplier network.

Our engineering team works closely with our customers to create specifications for the final foam composite. We start by clearly understanding your needs and defining any specific features that may be required including:

  • Overall thickness of the final composite
  • Padding capability
  • Flexibility and stretch
  • Breathability
  • Durability
  • Comfort – including the composite’s “hand”

With all the requirements in hand we work with our supplier network to identify and source materials and then develop the foam lamination process:

  • Flame Lamination – This process allows us to create double-sided composites where the foam is sandwiched between a combination of decorative or technical materials. A key benefit of flame lamination is that it eliminates the need for adhesive and the risk of adhesive creep and bond failure.
  • Thermal Fusing – allows us to bond flexible materials in a continuous roll-to-roll manner. By carefully controlling temperature, pressure and dwell, and selecting the best adhesive solution, we create strong bonds between foams and target materials to create bonds that stand up under any environmental extreme.

We are known for utilizing custom elements and processes to make sure our foam lamination solutions exceed your expectations. As an ISO 9001: 2015 certified company we are dedicated to continuously improving our processes and systems to insure that we exceed your expectations.
